How do I build my own robot? What does music have to do with math? Where does the Humboldt Lily get its name from? School classes from the 7th to the 10th grade will be able to answer these questions in workshops and self-conducted experiments during the Science Expo on July 17 at the University of Ulm. The students examine phenomena from science, technology or mathematics and discover how varied this topic can be.
The Central Student Advisory Service of the University of Ulm, which organizes this school event, invites you to the campus on the Upper Eselsberg on this day. After 9 am, school groups can attend various workshops ranging from ‘math meets music’ to ‘self-build electrical engineering’ to ‘experimenting with plastics’. In doing so, e.g. soldered a dice circuit itself, which responds to movement. For the accompanying teaching staff, a lecture on the topic, opportunities of digital media in the classroom – impulse lecture, discussion, practical example ‘is offered. This shows Dr. Daniel Schropp from the Department Lehr- und Lernforschung of the University of Ulm, among other things how to use affordable VR glasses together with student smartphones for lesson content.
Anyone who was unable to get a seat in the workshops is cordially invited to the “Market of Science” in the Forum of the University of Ulm from 1 pm on, which will take place after the workshops. There, the individual projects introduce themselves once again. Here is the opportunity for teachers to interact personally with the project leaders. Pupils are amazed by scientific phenomena and can experiment for themselves, such as building a Bristlebot, a toothbrush robot. Parallel to this, a second lecture with the renowned child and adolescent psychologist Dr. Ing. Thomas Fuchs on the topic “Pädagogenglück” can be visited free of charge. In a humorous way, he gives tips for survival and explains how mental health care can work for teachers, educators and educators. Meanwhile, the students have time to explore the University of Ulm with an actionbound. A grant for the class cash beckons to the best team on this campus rally. Registration for the “Science Market” and the additional program is not required.
