Starting from the winter semester 2019/2020, the Faculty of Computer Science of the Albstadt-Sigmaringen University of Applied Sciences will be offering a new study format to counteract the shortage of skilled workers. To this end, the already established Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Engineering will be further developed into an additional online distance learning program. On the one hand, the offer is aimed at people who, in addition to work or family, would like to undertake a bachelor’s degree and, on the other hand, ambitious professionals with relevant training.

The extra-occupational Bachelor’s degree program focuses on the solution of technical computer science tasks with a focus on information, communication and software technology. This will enable the indispensable specialists to be trained in emerging fields such as the Internet of Things, wearables (portable computer systems), Industry 4.0 and smart devices. The focus is on the proximity to professional practice and the application of current research topics. The distance learning technical computer science offers a high-quality scientific education with the degree Bachelor of engineering.

By studying online, students can work or stay at home, as all materials are made available online. There are also pre-planned attendance phases of two to three appointments per semester. Alternatively, the studies can also be individually adapted to the respective life situation and studied part-time.

“A part time study has to offer a high degree of flexibility today and must be geared to the living conditions of the students”, says Prof. Dr. med. Tobias Häberlein, Vice Rector for Continuing Education at Albstadt-Sigmaringen University. “In addition, there must be opportunities to include already acquired professional skills.”

The university already has many years of experience in the field of scientific further education and develops the new study concept in close coordination with leading companies in the industry. Therefore, the part-time distance learning program will cover a wide range and thus meet the requirements of small businesses, from established SMEs to large corporations. “The future graduates are know-how carriers for the future topics of the computer science and the interdisciplinary with numerous areas of application and thus in all sectors world-wide”, say Tobias Häberlein.

The online distance learning course technical computer science starts to the winter semester 2019/2020. Further information about the current development is available on the Internet: www.hs-albsig.de/tib
